D-Day 75th Commemoration Book Talk at FDR Library & Museum

June 6, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Free with museum adsmission

The FDR Library and Museum in Hyde Park, New York, will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings with two presentations on June 6, 2019. A meeting at Hyde Park between President Roosevelt and Winston Churchill in August 1943 was critical to adopting the OVERLORD strategy that would begin with D-Day. I am honored to be giving a talk on Advocating Overlord, starting at 7:00 p.m., at the museum on June 6. Earlier, at 4:00 p.m., National Park Service Ranger Michael Zwelling will give a talk about “The Changing Memory and Symbolism of D-Day.” He will go into how recollections of D-Day vary among the nations involved, which indeed do differ in interesting ways. Why make a day of it? Catch both talks and use the opportunity to also see the museum’s new special exhibition, “D-Day: FDR and Churchill’s Mighty Endeavor.” Developed in cooperation with the Churchill archives and the National Cryptologic Museum, the exhibition explores the special relationship between the two leaders and their top secret communications. This exhibit will run through January 6, 2020.
