SUMMARY:Advocating Overlord Talk To be Broadcasted July 7 and July 8
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, July 7 at 4:55 PM EDT\, C-SPAN2 Book TV will broadcast their video-recording of my June 16 talk during the “Roosevelt Reading Festival” at the FDR Library and Museum. You may watch on television or go to BookTV’s website at: https://www.c-span.org/series/?bookTv  Being where key events in the book happened\, I focused on the period of July-August 1943 and highlighted events and discussions between Roosevelt and Churchill that took place at the Roosevelt Estate and Eleanor Roosevelt’s idyllic cottage\, Val-Kill. Their meetings\, August 13-15 1943\, were a key milestone on the way to agreement a week later in Quebec on Allied strategy and cooperation on the atomic bomb.  The talk will be broadcasted again by C-SPAN2 on Sunday\, July 8 at 3:55 AM EDT. Yes\, that will be “oh-dark-thirty” on the U.S. East Coast\, but not a bad time at all for friends in Europe and the Pacific. SUMMARY:Roosevelt Reading Festival
DESCRIPTION:Recently published books about the lives and times of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt will be featured in talks by fifteen authors at the 15th annual\, day-long Roosevelt Reading Festival.  I’m honored to be invited to give a talk on Advocating Overlord.  I’m scheduled to speak at 3:00 p.m.\, but I will be around most of the day to chat and sign books.  Fourteen authors in all will be presenting during this very interesting program.  The FDR Library and Museum is on the grounds of the Roosevelt Family’s beautiful estate where one of the book’s crucial meetings between FDR and Winston Churchill occurred in August 1943.  This also is where much of the research for Advocating Overlord was done.  So\, going “back to school to give the book report” where this history happened 75 years ago should be great fun! \nPhil PadgettPhilip Padgett examines history by applying skills developed during 40 years of national security and preparedness research and analysis in the military\, government\, and the private sector.
